A Soul Dwelling In Two Bodies: A Writing Competition

A Soul Dwelling In Two Bodies: A Competition about Friendship!

A competition where we invite you to celebrate the friendships you’ve forged on Movellas, or elsewhere

All the competitions so far have been made with the thought of sparking ideas in your minds and making it fun for you to be on this website. But THIS competition is especially created as a tribute to all of you who have contributed to this community with your creativity and your compassion :)

The core idea of this competition is the question: what does friendship mean to you? Dedicate your story/entry  to one or more of the friends you’ve made here on Movellas.

There are all kinds of friendships, and you probably have experienced a lot of them. There are those close friendships where you don’t know where the line between platonic and romantic is; those where you understand each other so implicitly that more often than not you don’t need words to communicate; those where your friendship mostly consists of sharing memes with each other or other weird things because that’s how you communicate; even those where you argue every time you see each other, but breaking it off is not something either of you think about...

So yes, a lot of friendships exist in this world! And some, if not most of them, you don’t understand when you look at other people’s friendships. Maybe you don’t even understand what kind of friends you are with this person because it doesn’t fit into anything you know about what "friendship" is.

So write about it. Try to explain it in your own words.

Look at other such relationships around you. Usually friendships have that bit (or a lot) of possessiveness mixed in it. With time, it evolves. Does it become suffocating for the other, or you? Does it become something more?

What about throwing in a twist to this friendship? Maybe these two people think that they both agree on where they stand in this relationship, but in their private minds both have such different views on it that it could mean the breaking of their friendship if it ever got out. And maybe there are a lot of other important things that depend on this friendship, so they both keep it quiet.

But what would happen if you introduce a third person? Possessiveness, envy, jealousy, all these twisted, dark emotions might come toppling down on your character to suffocate them. Or make them act.

For this competition, however, you will have a minimum and a maximum of words you need to keep in mind to participate. We believe that the friend\s you dedicate your story, poem, fanvid to would love to read\watch the finished product. We all need closure from time to time ;)

So the categories for which you can participate in this competition are:

  • Prose: between 2,000 and 10,000 words
  • Poetry: between 2 and 4 poems (no matter the length)
  • Fanvids: minimum of 1 video and a maximum of 2 videos both between a minimum of 50 seconds and a maximum of 2 minutes
  • Graphics/art: minimum 1 piece and a maximum of 4

This competition's title was inspired by Aristotle: “What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.”
