Diary of a Geek

Emily knows a lot - like the fact that there are more than 10,000 bricks in the Empire State building, that dolphins sleep with one eye open, and that humans blink over 10,000,000 times a year. But she doesn't know one thing - how to be popular and fit in - well, until she has the chance to be transformed into one of the populars. But does being popular really make you happy? And will all the popularity go to Emily's head?

Inspired by Holly Smale's 'Geek Girl'.

1. Introduction

geek 1

Pronunciation: /giːk/

informal Definition of  geek noun an unfashionable or socially inept person.   [usually with modifier]  a knowledgeable and obsessive enthusiast: a computer geek

A geek - that's what I am. I looked it up in the dictionary - the definition of geek could also be the definition of Emily Whitten AKA me. You see, I'm not what you'd call popular - in fact I'm the opposite. While everyone is outside at school, I'm in the library. While other girls obsess over make up and clothes, I obsess over mathematical equations and the Oxford English Dictionary. It's how I've always been.

Let me introduce myself properly - you probably think I'm boring as anything. I'm Emily Whitten, I'm 16 and apart from being geeky, I'm not too bad, I guess. I don't look like your typical geek. I don't wear glasses (although I do have braces), I'm not ugly - just average - and I DO have friends. Well, mainly people I talk to online, but they're still friends, right?

Anyway, I started to write this diary because my Grandma forced me too. She said it would give me somewhere to write down 'life's many trials and tribulations', so I went along with it. I mean, it's not going to do any harm, and maybe it'll be fun, eh? So, that's my introduction - my life isn't all that interesting, but I'll try not to bore you too much.
